The Nublu Orchestra conducted by Butch Morris ecompasses the ideal of the club that bore Brazilian Girls, Norah Jones, Kudu, Wax Poetic, and so many others. It truly encapsulates the venue’s ability to nurture bands of professional players joining to make music that is all at once edgy, catchy, and danceable. Butch Morris, the legendary jazz musician and inventor of Conduction® (a practice in which he leads musicians in conducted interpretation and improvisation) guides the orchestra of Nublu residents – Kenny Wollesen (Tom Waits), Eddie Henderson (Herbie Hancock), Didi Gutman (Brazilian Girls), and Sylvia Gordon (Kudu) – through a series of musical meanderings that touch on touch on jazz, pop and dancefloorjams.
“As so often with his work, it seems to take up a life of it’s own… it takes one’s memory and imagination through music, from classical to jazz to blues, and its emotional range is almost limitless.”
